Bio
I am a plant physiologist and forest ecologist with broad research interests unified by the goal of better understanding how forests functioning varies in relation to major environmental and anthropogenic changes. I acquired a set of different technical skills, including methods applied at the genome (e.g., meta-barcoding, qPCR) to the ecosystem level (e.g., interpretation of eddy covariance data) and from instantaneous measurements of leaf gas exchanges and water potential to long-term reconstruction of tree physiological traits by using stable isotopes in tree rings. One of my main strengths is the use of stable carbon, oxygen and nitrogen isotopes in tree rings to reconstruct changes in water-use efficiency and nitrogen availability in response to climate, CO2 and nitrogen deposition. I recently became interested in bacterial communities hidden in the phyllosphere and their role in transforming the atmospheric nitrogen.
