Career Trajectory
Bio
She received the 5-year degree in Computer Science Engineering and Doctor degree in Microelectronics (with honors) in 2009 and 2014, respectively, from the University of Seville.
In 2006, she made an internship at the Computer Center of the Computer Science Engineering Higher Technical School funded by the University of Seville. During the 2008/2009 course, she was an internship student at the Languages and Systems Department of University of Seville granted by the Government of Spain. Since 2009, she started the research line “Biometrics in Hardware”, mainly focused on fingerprint recognition, when she was granted a Ph.D. scholarship funded by the Andalusian Government. Since then, she is with the Electronics and Electromagnetism Department of the University of Seville and the Microelectronics Institute of Seville. In 2014, she obtained a one-year post-doctoral fellowship. Also, she has been hired in research projects. In 2018, she obtained a two-year post-doctoral fellowship associated to the University of Seville and funded by INCIBE (Spanish National Cybersecurity Institute). Since August 2020, she is Assistant Professor at University of Seville.
Since her Ph.D. period, she has been working in Cybersecurity in the research line “Microelectronics for Security” as member of the research group “Design of Digital and Mixed-Signal Integrated Circuits” focusing on biometric recognition (mainly, based on fingerprints, faces and veins), fusion of biometrics with Physical Unclonable Functions (PUFs) and postquantum crypto-biometrics in FPGAs, wearable and IoT devices, and smartphones. Recently, her work has been focused on blockchain applications. Also, she has been working in Soft-Computing, specifically neural networks and fuzzy logic for image processing and forecasting of power generated by wind farms, being developer of the Xfuzzy software.
In 2013, she made a predoctoral research stay in the Signal Theory and Communications Department (Polytechnic University of Catalonia) and in the spin-off Herta Security S.L oriented to facial recognition solutions. In 2017, she made two research stays. One of them in the iPRoBe Lab (Intregrated Pattern Recognition and Biometrics Lab), in Michigan State University for the fusion of biometrics (as human identifiers) and PUFs (as device identifiers), and another one in the Pattern and Image Analysis Group in the Lisbon Higher Technical Institute to create solutions based on heart biometrics. Since March 2021, she is member of the IEEE CTSoc Quantum in Consumer Technology Technical Committee.
She is author in 9 papers published in journals indexed by JCR (5 Q1, 4 Q2, in 6 of them as first/last author), 6 papers published in journals indexed by SJR (3 Q2 and in 3 of them as first author), 21 works submitted to national or international conferences (1 of them achieved the best paper award and first/last author in 14 of them), 2 patents (one of them granted in Spain and another one is in evaluation as European patent), and 1 final EIP (Ethereum Improvement Proposal). She also participates as reviewer of journal and conference papers, conference organizer and in dissemination activities (industry conferences, media and events).
Her teaching experience is 9 academic years in degree and master subjects (with coordination responsibilities), and the supervision of 8 Degree final projects (3 of them in progress and 1 of them granted as the best final project of Computer Science Engineering at the Computer Science Engineering Higher Technical School), 10 Master final projects (1 of them in progress), and 3 Ph.D. thesis in progress. She has also supervised internships in companies.
She has participated in 13 projects (currently, 3 of them are active, 1 European, in 2 of them is co-PI, and 3 of them in collaboration with companies) funded through competitive calls of public entities and in 2 industry projects funded by private entities. She has participated in 5 projects of teaching innovation (2 of them are active, and in 1 of them as PI) and in one scientific dissemination project. Concerning transference activities, she has been co-recipient of the 1st XVIII Concurso de Ideas USEmprende (Banco Santander Training) Award and the 3rd Santander X Spain Award 2023.
