I am a PhD candidate in the Electrical and Computer Engineering department of New York University (NYU), working under the supervision of Prof. S. Farokh Atashzar at MERIIT Lab.
My work at MERIIT Lab has revolved around the analysis of biosignals, like surface electromyography (sEMG) to measure muscle activity and electroencephalography (EEG) to measure brain activity. We have focused on network analysis of the biosignal activities. Our analysis has encompassed the synchrony between muscle activities (intermuscular connectivity), the synchrony between brain activities (intra-cortical connectivity), and the synchrony between brain and muscle activities (corticomuscular connectivity).
We have investigated how biosignals may respond to neuromuscular disorders, for example, the changes of intermuscular connectivity in proportion to the severity of vocal hyperfunction and stroke. In addition, we have looked into the response of biosignals to fundamental neurophysiological conditions, for example, the change of intermuscular connectivity after fatigue. Projects involving intra-cortical and corticomuscular connectivity are ongoing, and the related manuscripts have yet to be published.
