Dr. Megía-Palma carried out his doctoral thesis in the Department of Evolutionary Ecology of MNCN-CSIC. He investigated on host-parasite relationships, with lizards as model organisms. His PhD triggered a new line of research for the group that has been previously focused on avian hosts. He obtained a fellowship from the Research Personnel Training program (FPI). During this period he had the opportunity to stay abroad for three months at University of California (UCSC).
His thesis was awarded with the Extraordinary Doctorate Award of UCM (2017). To date he has published 30 SCI articles where ~30% of co-authors are women. They were published in international high-ranked journals indexed in SCI. Dr. Megía-Palma has successfully led publications with more than 10 authors from conception of ideas, analysis of data, writing of the manuscript, and not least, coordination of co-authors. His co-authors are from USA, New Zealand, France, Slovenia, Tunisia, Portugal, India, Mexico, Australia, Argentina, and Spain, pintpointing the internationallity of his research. He has an h index of 14 (Google Scholar). He has reviewed more than 35 research articles (certified by Publons). He has contributed with 34 communications to research conferences, both national and international in countries such as China, Lithuania, or New Zealand. He was invited as lecturer in seminars of the Master of Zoology of the UCM and in the University of Amapá (Brazil), University of Ljubliana (Slovenia), University of La Laguna (Tenerife), Jagiellonian University (Poland), and Joint Research Unit in Biodiversity (UMIP-UO, Oviedo).
After his doctoral defense, he has obtained 4 research contracts in Spain; 2015-2016 in UAH, 2018 in EEZA-CSIC, and 2018 in MNCN-CSIC. In 2018 he simultaneously gained two post-doc positions. The first was a grant from the Juan de la Cierva-Formación program, and the second was a post-doctoral contract (6 years) from the FCT call (Portugal). His current position since January of 2021 is Assistant Professor at Universidad de Alcalá (UAH) where he has both teaching, research, and mentoring duties. To date, he supervised 7 bacherlors’ projects (UAM, URJC, UB, UCM, UAH) and 6 masters’ degree final projects (ULL, UIMP-CSIC, UCM). He is currently an adjunct member of the doctoral thesis tutorial jury (UNAM, Mexico) and he co-supervises a PhD student in Portugal with funds from the Portuguese FCT.
He is currently participating in research projects in Slovenia (J1-2466), Poland (2021/41/B/NZ8/00708), and Spain (PGC2018-097426-B-C21).
