Career Trajectory
Bio
In 2012, I obtained my degree in Molecular Biology from the Universidad Nacional de San Luis - Argentina. The last three years of my degree I participated as a research student in research projects, which allowed me to take the first steps towards my training as a researcher. I finished my study doing a degree thesis on the molecular effects of cell damage by Clostridium septicum, results that were presented at different international conferences, and are published as an open access scientific article. That same year I began my PhD in Cellular and Molecular Biology at the Universidad Nacional de Cuyo (UNCuyo) - Argentina where my main achievement was the elucidation of the role of the cellular cytoskeleton in the survival of Coxiella burnetii, an obligate intracellular bacterium of great sanitary importance and economy in livestock. This earned me a high-impact publication, as well as other publications and several presentations at international meetings. In 2014 I was recognized as a researcher of the Facultad de Odontología (FO) - UNCuyo, starting my own career as a Researcher, with the objective of managing my research data through an active and useful organization throughout the research process, as well as the proper archiving of my data in public repositories.
In 2017 I obtained my doctor degree and began a 2-year postdoctoral fellowship at UNCuyo where I expanded my knowledge on the role of various cellular factors in relation to Coxiella burnetii and the eukaryotic cell. The results obtained have been published in international conferences, and in impact open access journals. I had the opportunity to generate a literature review on this pathogen as a corresponding author. I also collaborated as a young researcher, in research projects at UNCuyo. That same year I moved to Madrid, thanks to a fellowship from UNCuyo, where I did a postdoctoral stay at the Centro Nacional de Biotecnología - CSIC, where I acquired important knowledge on Salmonella and Listeria, managing to publish a scientific paper at an international congress. In 2018 I managed to consolidate myself as PI of my own line of research in FO in the biomolecular study of Streptoccocus dentisani. I began to detect this microorganism in 2019, in the FO Clinics, attracting business interest in the region. That same year I obtained national funding for 2 years as an PI, and obtained a special mention from the Sociedad de Biología de Cuyo, for my research on S. dentisani as an oral probiotic. In 2019 I moved to Madrid, thanks to a Boehringer Fonds fellowship, where I did a stay at the Centro de Investigaciones Biológicas - CSIC, acquiring important knowledge in immunoevasion factors produced by bacteria, a robust stay for my line of research, and valid for another publication, such as corresponding author. Since the start of the pandemic in 2020, I have dedicated my studies to the identification and detection of SARS-CoV-2 viral genes through bioinformatics, contributing knowledge, ideas and hypotheses at the molecular level, for the generation of a rapid detection kit, of variants of SARS-CoV-2, in association with the Universidad Católica de Cuyo (UCCuyo). In addition, I published another literature review as corresponding author. In 2021, I obtained a research contract at the Hospital Regional Universitario de Málaga, for research on Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2D); and in 2022, I obtained a María Zambrano Contract granted by the Ministerio de Universidades del Gobierno de España, to relate aspects of oral health (given my previous experience) and its importance in T2D. That same year, I applied for national funding and funding from the University of Malaga, both as PI, and I have participated in an open access publication on said study. In 2023 I am the main coordinator of my own clinical trial (Project Code: SMILE). As an Emerging Researcher, I have contributed to the training of young researchers: Tutor of two Doctoral Thesis in Dentistry (2021); Director of Degree Thesis in Basic Sciences (2016); Director of a research initiation scholarship (2016); Director of two academic training practices (2013 and 2014). In addition, I have also participated in institutional management: Member of the board of directors of the IHEM - CONICET; Member of the board of directors of the FO - UNCuyo; Member of the Commission of the Doctorate in Dentistry program of the FO. I also participated in several evaluations: Evaluator within the R&D Projects Program (2022), managed by the Sectoral Commission for Scientific Research (CSIC) of the Universidad de la República – Uruguay; Reviewer of articles in scientific journals: “Biocell” (2020); Evaluator of the Student Mobility Program for stays abroad, SeCTyP-UNCuyo (2018). In addition, I have carried out teaching tasks from 2014 to the present, at three different universities, I have taken multiple professional training courses, and I have taught various postgraduate courses, based on cell and molecular biology.
