Rocío Belinchón has been working in Ecology and in Conservation Biology topics since 2005. She is a full-time researcher (Post-doctoral Researcher) at the Department of Botany, Charles University in Prague (Czech Republic). She is interested in studying factors explaining species distribution, while also addressing major threats to biodiversity. Specifically, she is interested in understanding how ecological processes constrain the diversity, distribution and population genetic structure of species. During her personal research career, she has developed a multi-disciplinary research profile integrating ecology, conservation biology and molecular ecology evaluating spatio-temporal dynamics and the impact of anthropogenic activities in Mediterranean, Boreal, Oceanic and Temperate ecosystems. She has demonstrated capacity for independent management in science using epiphytes as model organisms, as very little previous research had been carried out in forest epiphytes, despite their acknowledged conservation importance. She had to overcome these data deficiencies through the judicious transfer of methods and information from alternative systems, creating a unique responsibility to feed original research findings into conservation strategy. She has also carried out studies using grasslands to evaluate how present-day and historical factors shape different diversity metrics to provide empirical insights into the likely importance of environmental and dispersal filtering on evolutionary and life-history traits. In addition, She has proved leadership in the independent management of multiple lines of work, including research projects targeted to different systems and has a growing network of international collaborators to support large-scale projects.
