Bio
Tom is an MRI physicist specialising in fetal imaging, with a particular focus on the acquisition and reconstruction of fetal cardiac images. He works closely with the paediatric clinical teams at St Thomas' Hospital on the translation of these new research methods into practical clinical usage.
His work uses advanced MRI acquisition techniques in combination with slice-to-volume registration (SVR) methods to convert in utero 2D snapshot-images of the fetal heart into motion-corrected 4D models of the entire beating heart. These 4D models enable the visualisation and quantification of the complex blood flow patterns of the prenatal heart, including babies with congenital heart disease.
