Bio
Dr Roberto GARAY MARTINEZ is Lead Researcher in Building Physics and Project Manager in Tecnalia.
His main research activities are Heat Transfer and Energy in Buildings. He is specifically interested in experimental methods and in getting physically relevant knowledge out of data driven methods and porting them from research into application in the context of energy services and measurement & certification schemes.
He has been active in several domains such as building and HVAC system simulation, data analysis and forecasting, building controls, heat transfer assessment, full scale experimentation, etc.
He has been involved in the deployment of many building retrofit packages over existing buildings.
He has been specifically involved in value assessment processes for building retrofit packages and in consultation projects to EU-wide tier 1 industrial companies to ensure the market viability of their products.
He is expert in experimental procedures for building physics and solar systems, staff member of the KUBIK test facility since 2011, and has consulted in the definition of industry-led experimental facilities in several countries.
He has taken part in more than 40 research projects (>4 Million €), coordinated h2020 project RELaTED (Renewable Low Temperature District, 4 Million €), and participated in several IEA projects.
He is accredited as “Certified Energy Manager” (CEM), Certified Energy Auditor” (CEA) and “Certified Measurement & Verification Professional” (CMVP) by the US Association of Energy Engineers (AEE).
He is co-author of many scientific papers, books, patents and IEA & CEN reports, and has served as expert for scientific committees, reviewer of research activity for public bodies, and peer reviewer for internationally reknowned journals. He has been guest lecturer in MSc Seminars for several Universities, directed MsC and PhD thesis.
