Bio
Robert J. Prance received the B.Sc. degree from the University of Liverpool, the M.Sc. degree from Lancaster University, and the D.Phil. degree from the University of Sussex. He is a Professor of Sensor Technology with the School of Engineering and Design, University of Sussex. His career started in low temperature physics and during this time he developed expertise in electromagnetic sensors. This led to the invention of a novel electric potential sensor with generic measurement capabilities. An application of this to electrophysiology received recognition in 2002 with the Institute of Physics Best Paper Award. He has published extensively in the scientific literature with some 158 journal publications, and 146 contributions to conferences and the media. He has directed a broad range of funded projects, both highly specific and interdisciplinary spanning, medicine, geophysics, materials testing, neuroscience, security, forensics and resonance imaging, funded from a mixture of research council grants, government agency contracts and industrial funding. He is actively engaged in the commercialization of the IP generated by his group with the support of the University. He is a member of the Institute of Physics and a Chartered Physicist.
