Bio
My personal mission is to apply genetics, genomics and a deep understanding of human biology to improve the lives of patients. For over 20 years, I trained and worked in academic medicine to develop skills in clinical medicine, genetics/genomics and immunology. I came to appreciate the power (and limitations) of these skills in understanding human physiology in health and disease. In 2013, I transitioned to a career in the pharmaceutical industry to apply these skills to discovery and develop transformational medicines via core principles: identifying targets based on causal human biology (including human genetics); recapitulating human biology with appropriate therapeutic modalities; developing robust biomarkers to measure target engagement and modulation; and testing therapeutic hypotheses safely and efficiently in humans. Today, I deploy these principles with an entrepreneurial team at Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS), where I am responsible for two teams: (1) Immunology, Cardiovascular, and Fibrosis Research & Early Development (where we are responsible for the strategic vision, implementation, and partnership of novel therapies for diseases within immunology, cardiovascular, and fibrosis in R&ED), and (2) Translational Medicine (where we are responsible for the translational strategy and execution across our therapeutic areas in late development).
