Bio
Robert M. Briber is a Professor of Materials Science and Engineering and Associate Dean for Research for the A. James Clark School of Engineering at the University of Maryland. He was interim Dean for the Clark School from 4/2020 until 10/2021. He was Chair of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering from 2003-2015. Prior to joining the University of Maryland, he was an National Research Council postdoctoral fellow and staff scientist at the National Institute of Standards and Technology. He has a B.S. degree in Materials Science and Engineering from Cornell University and a Ph.D. degree in Polymer Science and Engineering from the University of Massachusetts. He is a past President of the Neutron Scattering Society of America, a Fellow of the American Physical Society and of the Neutron Scattering Society of America, a recipient of the Department of Commerce Bronze Medal, a University of Maryland Distinguished Scholar-Teacher and a former editor of the Journal of Polymer Science – Polymer Physics Edition. His research interests include:
- Polymer physics and phase transitions in polymer systems
- Polymer morphology and structure
- Chain conformation of synthetic and bio- polymers
- Neutron and X-ray scattering characterization of materials
- Transmission electron microscopy of polymers
