个人简介
Professor Perham was born in Middlesex in 1937 and attended Latymer Upper School before coming to St John’s to study for a BA in Natural Sciences. He went on to complete his PhD at St John’s, before embarking on a career in Biochemistry with the University of Cambridge.
He was elected Fellow of St John’s in 1964 and taught as a Lecturer and Director of Studies in Biochemistry. He served as President of the College from 1983 to 1987, and became Head of the University’s Department of Biochemistry in 1985, a position he held until 1996.
From 2004 to 2007, Professor Perham held the position of Master of St John’s. He remained active in the life and work of the College until his death, as founder-President of the Beaufort Society, among various other roles.
Professor Perham’s many accolades include Fellowships of the Royal Society and the Royal Society of Arts, the Max Planck Research Prize, the Novartis Medal and Prize for Biochemistry, Fellowship of the Academy of Medical Sciences and the Diplôme d’Honneur from the Federation of European Biochemical Sciences.
He died at home on Saturday 14 February and is survived by his wife, Dr Nancy Lane Perham, and two children.
