I lead a research group interested in glass chemistry, properties and applications. Our research is supported by a variety of funding agencies and by industry. Our current projects include studies of laser interactions with glass, development of glasses for biomedical applications, glass coatings to improve corrosion resistance of steel, development of optical filters, sealing glasses for solid oxide fuel cells, and studies of aging and fatigue effects on glass strength.

I teach undergraduate courses on glass science and technology and on ceramic processing and characterization, and a graduate course on glass science.
