Renzo Vianello
- Full Professor of Developmental Psychology since 1990 at the University of Padova
- Vice President and President of the European Association for Special Education from 1988 to 1996
- Member of permanent observatory for inclusion of disabled children from 1997 to 2003
- Dean of the Faculty of Psychology of Padova from 1.11.2001 until 30.09.2008
Research interests:
Cognitive development
Studies about cognitive development were focused on the passage from the intuitive to the operational thinking, not only in typically developing children but also in children with mental retardation. A number of studies were aimed to improve the OLC test (1997 with M.L. Marin) for the assessment of the development of the logical thinking in individuals aged between 4 and 8 (or with mental age between 4 and 8). Moreover many research about metaknowledge development were carried out (knowledge about memory, attention and emotion)
Working memory in individuals with intellectual disabilities due to genetic causes
Children with different genetic syndromes (e.g. Down, syndrome, fragile X syndrome) were compared with children with same mental age in verbal and visuo-spatial tasks requiring different levels of difficulty to see if individuals with intellectual disabilities are impaired in more attentional controlled tasks.
Cognitive and metacognitive training to improve learning and memory
Based on results about knowledge on memory and attention and on working memory control a metacognitive training to improve memory performance was prepared.
Inclusion of disabled children
-attitudes of parents, pairs and teachers about disabled children
-mental structures and intelligence assessment
-logical thinking in individuals with Down syndrome
-metamemory and mental retardation
