Bio
The main goal of my research is to understand the evolutionary dynamics and molecular mechanisms that control gene expression of eukaryotic genes through the analysis of genomic, transcriptomic and epigenomic data. I work in this field since my PhD and had the opportunity to make contributions in basic research: (1) a mathematical model of individual gene expression dynamics showing that minimal noise does not correspond to genes obeying a strictly deterministic dynamics; (2) the discovery that intragenic recombination is a basic mechanism underlying the allele diversity of Trypanosoma cruzi hybrid strains; (3) genomics of trypanosomatids, as well as clinical research (4) a method based on a real-time TaqMan-MGB PCR assay, using mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) as target, that accurately identify the 3 species within the Candida parapsilosis species complex. I am currently working in the molecular mechanisms that control gene expression and development of the mammalian retina with focus on epigenomic data.
