个人简介
Relber Aguiar Gonçales graduated in 2012 in Biological Sciences from the Federal University of Pelotas, Brazil. Between 2007 and 2012, he developed studies involving biotechnology, microbiology, and parasitology with a focus on vaccines and diagnostic tests with veterinary interest. In 2011, he participated in the Santander Entrepreneurship Award, in the Biotechnology and Health category, and was finalist. In the same year, he participated in the Summer Course in Cell and Molecular Biology at the University of São Paulo (USP) and won the Lucien Lison award. Between 2014 and 2018, he received the degree of Master and PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology from the Faculty of Medicine of the USP. During his PhD, he developed part of its work on the genetic manipulation of yeasts P. brasiliensis fungi that overexpress the paracoccin lectin at the University of Minho, Braga, in the Microbiology and Infection Domain at the Life and Health Sciences Research Institute (ICVS). He then returned to Brazil in 2016 and developed further studies involving the pathobiology, infection, and immune response of mutants of P. brasiliensis yeasts. During this period, he received important awards, including the XIV International Meeting of Paracoccidioidomycosis and the IX Symposium of the Cell and Molecular Biology. In 2018, he started his postdoctoral studies at USP, and the Federal University of Goiás (UFG), Brazil. At USP, he focused on optimizing reliable molecular tools for fungal transformation and characterizing chitin-size fragments derived from the cell wall of P. brasiliensis yeasts, and at UFG, he focused on the genetic manipulation of P. brasiliensis yeast cells. In 2019, he was recruited in a highly competitive international call for a post-doc researcher to work on the regulation of inflammation in the context of sarcoidosis in Carvalho´s lab at ICVS, University of Minho under the FCT-funded project Innate Regulation of Granulomatous Inflammation, where he is applying and consolidating his knowledge regarding the mechanisms that contribute to granuloma formation. His expertise allowed the development of models to dissect the biological processes underlying the granuloma inflammation in vitro and in vivo with unprecedented detail. He established several collaborative networks with international laboratories in cellular and molecular biology, and immunology. His track-record is currently mirrored by 21 publications (>100 citations and h-index=6; February 2021), 2 books, and 8 book chapters, and he has been an ad-hoc reviewer for international journals. He participates in the diagnosis of COVID-19 within a team of volunteers that was created at ICVS.
