Research summary
My research centres around material engineering for nanotechnological solutions tackling energy and environmental challenges, with focus in the area of semiconductor photochemistry. I am particularly interested in the design of nanocomposite materials and understanding of structure-property correlation towards photocatalytic efficiency and selectivity. I use primarily industrial synthesis techniques such as chemical vapour deposition (CVD), as well as hydrothermal and photochemical methods, combined with a wide range of cutting-edge characterisation methods, including advanced synchrotron X-ray diffraction and spectroscopy techniques, vibrational spectroscopy and electron microscopy. Target applications include solar-to-chemical energy conversion systems (Solar Fuels); sustainable synthesis of industrial products such as chlorine-containing chemicals or ammonia; and air/water cleaning nanotechnologies.
