Career Trajectory
Bio
I graduated in Biology from Salamanca University in 1994. I did my thesis in the Department of Microbiology and Genetics of Salamanca University with a grant of the Ministry of Education and Science (FPI Program) getting a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology in 2000. This thesis was dedicated to the study of the regulation of genes related to sporulation in Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
After this stage, I began my work as a postdoctoral in 2002 in the Department of Microbiology II (now Department of Microbiology and Parasitology) of Complutense University (UCM) where I was an Assistant Professor Doctor from August 2019 until March 2022. Currently, I am an Associate Professor at UCM. I am part of the consolidated research group of the UCM “Functional Genomics of Yeasts and Fungi” (Ref. 920640) recently evaluated (2018 and 2023) by the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness as "Excellent" whose IP is Dr. Javier Arroyo. Here, I have participated in more than 20 research projects, funded by both national and European entities, have published 21 articles in scientific journals indexed in the areas of Microbiology, Cell Biology, and Molecular Biology and have participated in multiple national and international congresses. My research focuses on the characterization of new genetic elements and molecular mechanisms relevant to the signal transduction and the transcriptional and posttranscriptional regulation of genes involved in the biogenesis of the cell wall of S. cerevisiae.
I have carried out my teaching activity in the Department of Microbiology and Parasitology in the subjects of General Microbiology, Clinical Microbiology, Immunology and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology of different Degrees.
