个人简介
I am an ecologist with a particular interest in quantitative methods, population ecology, population dynamics, structure and diversity pattens of species communities, biodiversity monitoring and conservation. My research interest focuses on developing new methods and modeling techniques and applying them to answer fundamental research questions in ecology and evolution.
My Ph.D work focused on four main topics: (i) evaluating the performance of non-destructive methods used to estimate the condition of individuals in amphibians, e.g. body condition indices, and providing empirical validation and recommendation for their use in ecological studies; (ii) determining the ability of estimators of species richness to provide reliable estimates of species richness of temperate amphibian and reptile communities and providing recommendations for their use to describe the diversity on local and regional level; (iii) applying new methods for fluctuating asymmetry, e.g. geometric morphometrics, and introducing them as conservation tools for island isolated populations of lizards and wild tortoises’ populations; (iv) testing the population isolation effects on the lizards’ genetic variability using microsatellites molecular markers and providing evidence that they are reliable markers to monitor the impact of population isolation on species genetic diversity.
The focal aim of my post-doctoral work was population dynamics and spatial ecology of amphibians. I developed and applied models for: (i) improving the understanding on the relative role of (direct and delayed) density dependent and density independent factors (such as weather) on amphibian population growth rate; (ii) identifying a reliable model - the Gompertz state space model extended for two year time lag - to be used in the analysis of short time series data for explaining population dynamics in amphibians; and (iii) developing a multi-state single season occupancy model to handle with spatial autocorrelation and applying it for investigating occupancy and site selection for breeding in amphibians. I also worked on movement and behaviour of cave-dwelling animals. I introduced for the first time the temporary emigration, the probability that an individual is absent from a cave at a given sampling occasion, to inform about movement and behaviour of cave-dwelling animals. Moreover, I conducted research on the topic of distribution, occupancy, site selection for breeding and life history of troglophilic species in hypogean versus epigean habitats.
