Career Trajectory
Bio
Originally from Nashik (India), I obtained first class degree in Bachelor of Pharmacy in 2006 from M.G.V’s College of Pharmacy, Nashik (Pune University). Subsequent to the completion of my degree, I came to U.K. in 2006 to peruse my MSc in Pharmacology and Biotechnology at Sheffield Hallam University, which I graduated from in November, 2007.
I completed my PhD in metabolomics at The University of Sheffield in 2014 under the supervision of Dr Raman Vaidyanathan. My doctoral research involved development and optimisation of mass spectrometry based hyphenated techniques for microalgal and mammalian metabolomics. Simultaneously, I was also working as a Sheffield Graduate Trainee (Sept/10-July/14) at The University of Sheffield, where I was involved in numerous demonstration duties in chemical and biological engineering discipline. Briefly, I have conducted demonstration duties for masters and undergraduate students covering topics such as bioreactors, spectrophotometry, protein assays, biology tutorials, computing tutorials and engineering design weeks. I have also successfully conducted workshops for masters and PhD students on chromatographic and mass spectrometric techniques.
I joined the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at The University of Sheffield in August 2014 as a Postdoctoral Research Associate (PDRA) on a BBSRC funded project: “Sustainable Bioenergy from Microalgae: A Systems Perspective”. My current research involves metabolome level characterisations of microalgae cultures and thereby developing a systems level understanding in combination with other systems biology approaches (proteomics and transcriptomics), that will lead to sustainable processes for bio-energy generation from microalgae. Current research is ongoing in collaboration with other researchers in the Department and those in the Department of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology at Sheffield. In addition, the work also involves collaboration with researchers at the University of Cambridge (UK), The Scottish Association for Marine Science (Scotland) and two Indian Institutes (NFMC, Bharatidasan University, Tiruchirapalli (Funded by Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Govt. of India) and Lady Doak College, Madurai).
