个人简介
Dr. Raúl Alberto Mora is an Associate Professor at the School of Education and Pedagogy at Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana in Medellín. He is an instructor in the B.A. in Spanish-English Education and the Doctorate in Education. At UPB, he helped create the M.A. in Learning and Teaching Processes in Second Languages, which he coordinated between August 2013 and June 2016.
He has served as visiting professor at Universidad Distrital, Universidad del Norte, Universidad Católica Luis Amigó, Universidad de Córdoba, Universidad Tecnológica de Pereira, and Universidad del Valle in Colombia, and the University of Białystok in Poland. He was a visiting scholar at Universidad de La Sabana, in Colombia, Marie Curie Skłodowska University in Poland, and Urals Federal University in Russia. He’s been a guest lecturer at Universidad de Nebrija and Universidad de Málaga (Spain), the University of West Bohemia (Czechia), the University of São Paulo (Brazil), Florida State University, and the University of Massachusetts-Amherst (USA), the University of Stavanger and the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU).
His current research explores second-language literacies in urban spaces and gaming communities in Medellín, the pedagogical implementation of alternative literacies in second-language education, the use of transmedial discourse in sociocultural studies, and critical frameworks for English Language Teaching and plurilingualism in Colombia, topics he develops with the award-winning Literacies in Second Languages Project (LSLP) Research Lab, which he chairs at UPB. He currently holds the top ranking of Senior Researcher in Colombia from the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (Minciencias)
He has published his work in peer-reviewed journals in Colombia (HOW Journal, Enletawa Journal, GiST Journal, and Revista Internacional Magisterio) and around the globe (Journal of Adolescent & Adult Literacy, The ALAN Review, International Journal of Cultural Studies, Educational Media International, Journal of Language and Literacy Education, and The Elementary School Journal). He has also authored and co-authored international book chapters and conference proceedings papers. He has helped put together special issues for the International Journal of Cultural Studies, the European Journal of Humour Research, Social Semiotics, Pedagogies, and English Teaching: Practice and Critique. He co-edited The Handbook of Critical Literacies (Routledge, 2021). He is also editing Understanding Second Language Users as Gamers: Language as Victory (forthcoming, 2024). He has talked about his work in Colombia, the United States, Spain, Denmark, Argentina, India, Switzerland, Vietnam, Canada, Norway, and Brazil, both in person and online. Most of his recent publications and presentations are co-authored pieces with his junior researchers at LSLP.
Dr. Mora serves as an editorial review board member for How Journal in Colombia, as well as Journal of Adolescent & Adult Literacy, Reading Research Quarterly, and Critical Inquiry in Language Studies. in the U.S. He has served as special issue guest editor for International Journal of Cultural Studies, Social Semiotics, European Journal of Humour Research, Pedagogies, and English Teaching: Practice and Critique. He has also served as section editor for the Journal of Adolescent & Adult Literacy and The ALAN Review. He is one of the founding members of the Transnational Critical Literacies Network (TCLN) and currently sits on the Literacy Research Association Board of Directors (2021-2024).
Dr. Mora holds a B.A. in Modern Language Education from Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana, an M.A. in Teacher Education, and a Ph.D. in Language and Literacy, both from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He was awarded a Fulbright Graduate Scholarship to pursue his M.A. at Illinois and has been a member of The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi since 2009. He was selected as the 2019 winner of the Divergent Award for Excellence in Literacy in a Digital Age Research in recognition of his contributions as an international scholar to the field of literacy.
Dr. Mora currently resides in Trondheim, Norway.
