Bio
I hold a PhD in Material Engineering, with a PhD thesis entitled “Development of porous biocomposites for biomedical applications”. The aim of this thesis was the development of new porous matrices for bone reconstruction and drug delivery applications. This project gave me the opportunity to optimize synthesis methods for the production of a wide variety of materials (i.e. polymers, glass, ceramics, and composites) and to implement 5 new characterization techniques in our laboratory. Through several collaborations with international laboratories (e.g. Institut Charles Gerhardt de Montpelier, Centre for Protein Engineering) and companies (e.g. Prayon, Deconologic), I have also applied these technologies to other applications like (photo)catalysis, water and air treatment, mechanical reinforcement, 3D printing. Thanks to these opportunities, I mastered different characterization techniques, including TEM, SEM, gas adsorption-desorption, TGA, EDX, XRD, FTIR, mechanical properties, and functional testing.
I currently work as Project Leader in the department of Medical and Sustainable Materials at Centexbel. Centexbel is the Belgian collective research center on textile and plastic. In Centexbel, I am responsible for the electropinning technology as well as for the hyperspectral imaging. We currently have several projects in the field of medical devices (reconstruction of tooth) and sustainability/circularity with the development of methods for the analysis of microplastics and the realization of bio-based coating with anti-microbial and anti-UV activities.
