Bio
Rebeca Magdaleno is a pre-doctoral researcher at the Valdecilla Health Reasearch Institute (IDIVAL). She graduated in Psychology in 2018 at the European University of the Atlantic and completed her studies in the "Master of Initiation to Research in Mental Health" CIBERSAM-University of Cantabria (UC) in the academic year 2020-2021. During the academic year 2021-2022 she completed the "Master's Degree in General Health Psychology" taught by the European University of Madrid and the "Master's Degree in Neuropsychology" taught by the Open University of Catalonia (UOC).
During her studies for the Master's Degree in Initiation to Research in Mental Health, she carried out her long stay at IDIVAL with the Mental Illness Research Group under the supervision of Dr. Rosa Ayesa-Arriola. During this stay at IDIVAL she developed her Master's thesis "Sex Differences in Cognitive Reserve in Patients with First Psychotic Episodes" with data from the PAFIP Cohort.
Then, in 2022 she began her studies in the PhD Programme in Molecular Biology and Biomedicine at the University of Cantabria under the direction of Dr. Rosa Ayesa-Arriola and the co-direction of Dr. Mónica López Fanarraga, having obtained the PREVAL grant for IDIVAL-UC pre-doctoral contracts. Her thesis project will deal with the relationship between cognitive reserve and the neurobiological and neurochemical substrate in patients with schizophrenia spectrum disorders (SSD) and their first-degree relatives.She is actively involved in the PAFIP-FAMILIAS project (PI17/00221) to which her pre-doctoral contract is linked. This project studies neuropsychological functioning and associated genetic variants in relatives of patients with schizophrenia spectrum disorder. She has also conducted assessments of patients with SSD and their first-degree relatives within the DISCOURSE project. This project seeks the prevention and early detection of schizophrenia spectrum disorders through the development of a tool to identify language and movement disorders using artificial intelligence and machine learning. Recently the research group on mental illness to which Rebeca Magdaleno belongs has been a collaborator in the International Chair in Cognitive Healt at the University of Nebrija (Madrid).
