Russell M. Wise

Dr Russell Wise is a Principal Research Scientist at CSIRO in Canberra, Australia. Over the last 20 years Russ has led interdisciplinary teams in the collaborative design and delivery of systems- and values-based approaches to diagnosing and managing complex challenges in climate adaptation, disaster risk reduction, and resilience. This work has led to innovative contributions in the theory and practice of adaptation pathways, adaptation services, transformative adaptation, and enabling resilience investment in diverse contexts spanning Australia, Indonesia, PNG and South Africa. In 2018 Russ was seconded to the National Resilience Taskforce where he supported the development of Australia’s National Disaster Risk Reduction Framework and led the production of the Guidance for Strategic Decisions on Climate and Disaster Risks. Russ is currently leading the Enabling Resilience Investment initiative focused on building national capabilities to scale up investments in climate and disaster risk reduction and resilience in Australia.
