Bio
Raphaela de Melo Baesso received the B.Sc. degree in industrial chemistry and the B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in chemical engineering from the Federal Fluminense University, Niterói, Brazil, in 2011, 2016, and 2013, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree in biotechnology from the National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology (Inmetro), Duque de Caxias, Brazil, in 2018.
From 2013 to 2019, she was the Research Scientist at the Ultrasound Laboratory, Inmetro. While at Inmetro, she developed online and inline methods for monitoring biofuel production and quality using low-power ultrasound. She joined the National Physical Laboratory, Teddington, U.K., in 2019, where she has been working on medical ultrasound and is currently the Quality Lead and the Higher Research Scientist of the Ultrasound and Underwater Acoustics Group. She is also involved in the development of the primary standard hydrophone calibration technique, calibration services involving the dissemination of acoustic pressure and materials characterization, and quality assurance. She is the author of 11 peer-reviewed publications and has filed one patent in the ultrasound area.
