Bio
R. E. Miles (M'82) was born in Kettering, U.K., in 1943. He received the B.Sc. degree from Imperial College London, U.K., and the Ph.D. degree from London University, U.K., in 1964 and 1972, respectively, both in physics.
From 1964 to 1972, he was a Research Scientist with Zenith Radio Research, U.K, where he studied the surface properties of IV–VI compound semiconductors. In 1981, after a period as a schoolteacher he joined the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, University of Leeds, U.K., as a Research Engineer. In 1983, he became a Lecturer in electronic engineering at the University of Bradford, U.K. He returned to Leeds in 1985, where he is now a Professor of semiconductor materials and devices. His interests include the fabrication and modeling of high-frequency electronic devices, terahertz electronics and systems, and RF MEMS. He has published more than 100 papers in refereed journals and coedited five books on microwave engineering, semiconductor device modeling, and terahertz technology.
