个人简介
Quintus Fernando was born in Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) in 1926. After receiving his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Ceylon in 1949, he moved to the United States. He earned his Master’s degree from University of Louisville in 1951 and then his doctorate in 1953. He became a professor of Chemistry at the University of Arizona and remained on the faculty for 50 years.
Fernando’s philatelic interests were primarily Ceylon, Mexico, and Nicaragua. His Ceylon exhibition included Pre-Stamp Markings, Imperforate and Perforated Pence Issues. Fernando researched, collected and exhibited on several issues of Mexican stamps, including the Imperial Eagle Stamps (1864-66), the Maximilian era (1867-68), and the 1856 Issue of Mexico. He won many awards for his exhibitions. At the 1982 SANDICAL exhibition in San Diego, California, Fernando won the Grand Award for “The Guadalajara Provisional Issues (1867-68)” and his “Classic Issues of Nicaragua” won the Grand Award at the Sarasota National in 1997.
Fernando was a member of many philatelic organizations, including the Tucson Stamp Club, the Western Postal History Museum (now the Postal History Foundation) and Mexico-Elmhurst Philatelic Society International (MEPSI). Fernando was also an active Arizona Philatelic Ranger, and served a time as the Chairman in the 1970s and 1980s.
Quintus Fernando died in 2004.
