Career Trajectory
Bio
Dr. Saquib received Ph.D. from the Department of Ag. Microbiology, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, Aligarh Muslim University, India in 2009. Lately, he joined at Department of Zoology, in King Saud University. Much of his experience has been doing the DNA damage and molecular toxicity assessment of nanoparticles, pesticides and anti-cancer drugs in human lymphocytes, cell lines and animals models. He have ample experience in working with sophisticated instruments and molecular biology assays employed for toxicity assessment including flow cytometric analysis of cell cycle, apoptosis, Ca2+ influx, level of intracellular glutathione, free radicals analysis (including nitric oxide), and dissipation of mitochondrial membrane potential, respectively. Using the comet and cytokinesis blocked micronucleus assays He can quantify DNA damage and chromosomal breaks in the above mentioned test models. With his immunofluorescence skills, visualization of expression of apoptosis and cell death related proteins in cell lines can be done. Also he gained experience in qPCR array to quantitate the expression of 84 genes responsible for human toxicity and oxidative stress. Since, many features of programmed cell death in plants resemble with those observed in animals, in this regard, very recently, he got success in deciphering the mechanism of cell death in plant test system upon exposure with different nanoparticles. In addition to the basic and molecular biology techniques, he has good experience in bio-physical interaction analysis of biological macromolecules, which includes the interaction mechanism of binding of exogenous ligands with DNA and human serum albumin employing the spectrofluorescence measurements, cyclic voltammetry and circular dichroism. He earned the Environmental Mutagen Society of India (EMSI-2008) Young Scientist Award for the outstanding contribution in molecular toxicology research. Dr. Saquib is also serving as Co-Investigator in two projects funded by National Plan for Science and Technology, Saudi Arabia. Besides his deep involvement in research, he works as a resource person in training programs for postgraduate students and researchers in molecular techniques. Also, he is engaged in teaching the undergraduate students at Zoology Department, KSU.
