Bio
Xin Qian obtained his PhD from Duke University in 2010 before joining Caltech as Millikan Postdoctoral Scholar. He then joined Brookhaven National Lab in 2013 as tenure-track assistant physicist, and became physicist with the distinction of tenure in 2020. Xin Qian won the 2010 Jefferson Lab dissertation award for his work in electron-nuclei scattering experiments, the 2014 US Department of Energy Early Career Award to develop liquid argon time projection chamber (LArTPC) technology for precision accelerator neutrino physics, the 2016 Breakthrough Prize as part of the Daya Bay reactor antineutrino collaboration, the 2017 European Physics Society Young Experimental Scientist Award for contribution to the discovery of non-zero theta13 and precision measurement of neutrino mass-squared splitting in Daya Bay, and 2020 BNL science and technology award for his contribution to the development of LArTPC technology in MicroBooNE and DUNE experiments. Xin's research interests include i) non-zero neutrino mass and mixing, ii) understanding neutrino interactions, iii) search for physics beyond the standard model, iv) development of detector technology and analysis techniques, and v) precision test of standard model with rare processes.
