个人简介
Dr. Pritam Mukherjee is currently working as a Research Scientist in the Department of Oceanography, Techno India University, West Bengal, India. His present research work focuses on the use of coliform bacteria in the Hooghly River/estuary as a potential bio-indicator of water contamination and associated risks involved to human and environmental health. As a Faculty Member of Oceanography Department, he teaches Environmental Science to the undergraduates (BTech) of this university and formulate course work materials for the new PhD scholars. During his one year (February 2019 - February 2020) tenure as a Research Associate in the Department of Fisheries (Microbiology & Parasitology), Government of West Bengal, India, Dr. Mukherjee successfully completed a DST-funded project entitled “Use of probiotics to increase the productivity of cultured fish species using zoo-technical and hydrological parameters as proxies”.
He has completed his PhD in Biotechnology in 2018 from Techno India University, West Bengal, Department of Biotechnology. As a Research Scholar and Teaching Assistant in the department, he has taught several subjects (including Microbiology, Biochemistry, Genetic Engineering, Immunology, Animal Biotechnology, etc.) to undergraduate and post-graduate students from 2014 – 2018. The title of his PhD thesis is "Biochemical and Functional Characterization of Exo-polysaccharides Obtained from Heavy Metal-Resistant Plant Growth-Promoting Halo-Rhizobacteria of Avicennia marina of Indian Sundarbans". He has obtained his Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Microbiology from Bangalore University, Bangalore, India. During this period, he has done several project internships in renowned research laboratories of India including IPGMER, Calcutta Medical College and Bose Institute on various subjects including Cancer Biology, Biochemistry, Medical Microbiology and Immunology. He joined Wesleyan University, Connecticut, USA as a Graduate Student and Teaching Assistant in the Department of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry (MB&B) in 2009 and earned his second Master’s degree in MB&B in 2014. The title of his Master's thesis is "Regulation of the Synaptonemal Complex Protein, Zip1, During Meiosis in Budding Yeast". During the tenure of his Graduate and Doctoral research studies (in India and abroad), he has successfully mentored several undergraduate and post-graduate students for their final dissertation projects.
He has in his credit 10 international publications including both research and review articles as well as conference proceedings in SCI journals (like Elsevier, Springer Nature, Frontiers, PLOS and Taylor & Francis Group), 6 book chapters [in CSIR-NISCAIR (New Delhi), Springer Nature, CRC Press (Taylor & Francis Group), IntechOpen Open Access book and Frontiers e-book] and several other national publications as research articles and conference proceedings in UGC recognized/care journals. He has delivered platform talks and presented posters in several national and international conferences/webinars both within India and abroad including Indian Institute of Chemical Biology (Kolkata, India), Penn State University (Pennsylvania, USA), Princeton University (New Jersey, USA), Sultan Qaboos University (Muscat, Oman) and Dhaka University (Dhaka, Bangladesh). He has received the 'Young Scientist Award' for the year 2014 from Centre for Ocean and Environmental Studies (COES), New Delhi, India. He has also received several ‘Best Presenter Award’ for both poster and paper presentations in national and international conferences. He has also delivered several lectures as invited speaker in national and international platforms.
Dr. Mukherjee has also been working on the mangrove rhizosphere microbiota of Indian Sundarbans since 2014. He has screened and isolated several multi-metal resistant halotolerant rhizobacterial strains and investigated their roles in arsenic bioremediation, osmoregulation and growth promotion of salt-tolerant crops like Oryza sativa through bioactive compound mediated abiotic stress alleviation using microbiological, biochemical, biophysical, molecular and bioinformatics techniques.
