Bio
Piet has been graduated in 1990 at the Leiden University, and since then he has been employed at the Dutch National Reference Institute for animal diseases, currently named Wageningen Bioveterinary Research (Lelystad, the Netherlands). Heading "Viral Zoonoses and Vector-borne Diseases (VZVD)", his research is focused on diagnostics and vaccine development for several animal virus diseases, such as Classical Swine Fever, Bovine Viral Diarrhea, and since 2006 Bluetongue, and African Horse Sickness. In 2006, Piet has founded the Network of Excellence EPIZONE, currently also known as the European Research Group. In 2013, Piet has also accepted an extraordinary professorship at North-West University (Potchefstroom, South Africa). Piet is co-inventor of several patents of which the last one is on Disabled Infectious Single Animal (DISA) vaccines (WO2014/185784).
