Ontology, Epistemology & Research Interests
I undertake pure and applied research using methodological and disciplinary lenses from psychology to examine cognitive, behavioural and affective dimensions of leadership, with particular emphasis on interactions between school leaders and teachers.

4. The secure base phenomenon as a mediator between school leadership and teachers’ coping

I am the Director and Chief Investigator for the Australian Principal Health and Wellbeing Survey (www.principalhealth.org). This longitudinal project is Australia’s first truly independent research mapping the occupational health, safety and wellbeing of the nation’s educational leaders, conducted in response to growing concerns about principal and teacher welfare. The report on the first wave of data collection, found principals were facing very high levels of bullying and violence. This was highlighted in the mainstream media 159 times between July 2-26 this year (2 x TV, 17 x Radio; and 10 Print, and 133 online, including 6 from New Zealand and 1 x India). I also published an article discussing the implications of the results in The Conversation on July 23rd. This generated 2,930 views (9.6% from outside Australia) and 38 comments in 48 hours). The media interest in my research demonstrates significant real-world impact.
