Bio
Investigating a crippling birth defect in Australian beef cattle known as congenital chondrodystrophy of unknown origin. Since joining the faculty, Peter has taken on a teaching role in physiology, pharmacology, animal production and welfare.Peter's current research goal is to generate new knowledge about the best ways to use therapeutic drugs to improve animal welfare. To do this he leads a group evaluating the use of pain relief medications for improving the welfare of farmed animals undergoing routine painful husbandry procedures. The group also examines better ways of measuring pain using a variety of standard and novel techniques to help in measuring the effectiveness of pain relief medications. In addition Peter collaborates in research involving reproductive control using drugs with the aim of improving farmed animal and captive wildlife welfare.
