Bio
Dr. Peter Roebeling is Assistant Researcher at the Department of Environment & Planning (DAO-UA) and integrated researcher at the Centre for Environmental and Marine Studies (CESAM) of the University of Aveiro since 2008, and coordinates the CESAM’s Laboratory of Integrated Planning (LIP) since 2016. He holds a PhD in Social Sciences from Wageningen University (Netherlands; 2003) and an MSc in Agriculture and Natural Environment (Wageningen University, Netherlands; 1995), and has about 20 years experience in the area of sustainable development – leading integrated research projects regarding strategic resource use planning and environmental management as well as pathways for adoption of sustainable practices in Europe, Oceania, South-East Asia and Latin America. He has worked at the International Centre for Tropical Agriculture (CGIAR-CIAT; Colombia; 1995), the National University (UNA-CINPE; Costa Rica; 1996-1999), the Wageningen University and Research Centre (WUR – Social Sciences; Netherlands; 1999-2003) and the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO – Ecosystem Sciences; Australia; 2003-2007). His socio-environmental-economic research focuses on sustainable regional development through Integrated Catchment and Coastal Zone Management (ICCZM), Sustainable Urbanizing Landscape Development (SULD), Coastal Erosion and Adaptation Strategies (CEAS) and Efficient Air Quality Management (EAQM), and is based in integrated explorative and predictive approaches that support stakeholders in the identification, development and implementation of sustainable development strategies. His international research impact is evidenced by the publication of 34 journal papers, 4 books, 9 book chapter, 64 conference papers and 38 project reports. He is editorial board member of New Water Policy and Practice, has been guest-editor for Water Resources and Economics, and is peer reviewer for 17 ISI journals (5 on a regular basis). He has ample international experience through the lead of and participation in research projects (23; H2020; FP7; INTERREG-IVC, FCT, ACIAR, MTSRF and CSIRO), conference organizing (2) and scientific (7) committees, and international conferences (32). He has organizational management expertise as board member of the University Council (WUR; 2000-2002), deputy program leader WfHC-Floodplain Renewal (CSIRO; 2005-2007) and board member of the Departmental Council (DAO; 2010-present). Finally, 4 PhD-students (on-going) and 37 MSc-students (33 completed; 4 on-going) have been (co-) supervised.
