Bio
Peter Kaczkowski (M'97) received the B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Colorado, Boulder. in 1977; the M.S. Degree in Geophysics from the Col-orado School of Mines, Golden, in 1986; and the Ph.D. Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Washington, Seattle in 1993. He joined the Applied Physics Laboratory at the University of Washington in 1991 while a Ph.D. student in wave scattering by rough surfaces. After the Ph.D., he has continued numerical and theoretical research in various aspects of acoustics and electromagnetics. Recent projects include an experimental program in broad band sonar development for underwater mine detection and classification and development of an electromagnetic prospecting system for detection of landmines and unexploded ordnance to aid in the clean up of formerly used defense sites. He is currently working; on development of acoustically induced hemostasis for trauma management and for noninvasive surgical procedures. Dr. Kaczkowski is a member of the IEEE and of the Acoustical Socioty of America.
