Bio
Members of the Utah Paleomagnetic Center use field study in conjunction with paleomagnetic, rock and mineral magnetic, and collaborative stratigraphic, geochemical, and petrochronologic approaches to investigate a wide range of geological processes and phenomena in Earth System Science from the nanoscale to the planetary scale. Much of our work utilizes the unique information encoded in the magnetic and chemical properties of geological materials to study tectonic, paleoclimate, and paleoecological processes, and to recognize feedbacks between geodynamics, climate transitions, and surface processes. We have recently ventured into more boutique applications of mineral magnetism including fault-rock magnetism and air pollution and human health.
