Bio
Per Kongshøj Madsen (born 1949) is an experienced researcher in labour market and employment policies, having worked in this field since the early 1980s. His educational background is in economics, but he has since developed a broad familiarity with interdisciplinary analysis.
Since 2005 he has been professor at the Centre for Labour Market Research at Aalborg University, Denmark. In recent years he has published numerous articles on the theme of "flexicurity" or the challenge of combining flexible labour markets with social protection and security for the employees. He has taken part i several comparative European projects including the Nordic research project on Labour Market Mobility in Nordic Welfare States financed by the Nordic Council of Ministers (2007-2009) and the European FP7-project on Governance of uncertainty and sustainability tensions and opportunities (GUSTO) (2009-2012)
His fields of expertise includes:
• Evaluations of local, regional and national labour market programmes
• Assessment of national employment policies (including National Action Plans for Employment)
• Comparative analysis of national employment strategies
• Monitoring and reporting on national labour market and policy developments
His familiarity with consultancy and advisory functions includes being advisor to the Danish Min¬istry of Employment, the Nordic Council of Ministers, the International Labour Organization and the Lithuanian Ministry of Social Security and Labour. He has also participated in a number of European research and advisory activities including being a member of the European Employment Observatory (SYSDEM) since 1997.
