Bio
My scientific experience has focused on climate and Earth System modelling and the interaction of science and decision-making on topics such as climate change risks and adaptation. My work ranges from core climate modelling analysis, including mapping the impacts and vulnerability to climate change, particularly on human health, to planning and exploring possible ways for a transition to a sustainable economy. As a next academic step, I intend to develop comprehensive knowledge of the environmental drivers of heatwaves and the further implications of such drivers in affecting heatwave features that are deleterious for human health. For this, I plan to undertake a PhD where I would develop my current knowledge of extreme events from Earth System Models, exploring the role of different land cover types in aggravating health-relevant heatwave features and explore land-geoengineering adaptation solutions with health co-benefits. I expect as learning outcomes gaining a critical understanding of regional climate model / land-surface models capabilities to robustly simulate heatwaves and its land-use associations; identifying risks from climate change for human health through aggravated heatwave patterns and ultimately advance knowledge of the potential of land-geoengineering for adaptation to heat extremes.
