Bio
Dr. Whitinui (Ngā Puhi, Te Aupōuri, Ngāti Kurī and Pākehā) is from the Confederation of Tribes in the Far North of Aotearoa New Zealand, and is currently a Professor in the School of Exercise Science, Physical and Health Education in the Faculty of Education at the University of Victoria, BC, Canada. As an interdisciplinary social scientist his research interests include issues related to Indigenous and Māori sport, physical activity and leisure, education, schooling, cultural safety impact assessment, Treaty and community informed scholarship, health and well-being. Dr Whitinui has contributed to a wide range of scholarly works including funded grants, journal articles, edited books, edited special issues, book chapters, commissioned reports and peer-reviewed conferences.
