His graduate work in Physics was focused primarily on single-molecule and super-resolution fluorescence imaging. He went on to complete residency training in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and a fellowship in Hematopathology at the University of Washington. Dr. Simonson completed an additional research year in Hematopathology wherein he focused on techniques in multiparametric imaging in tissue, and machine learning approaches to improve clinical flow cytometry.
