Dr. Paul Shellhammer received his undergraduate degree magna cum laude from the University of Notre Dame and his medical degree AOA from Cornell Medical College. He completed his general surgery residency at the University Hospital of Cleveland followed by service in Viet Nam in the USAF. Dr Schellhammer served his urology residence at the Medical College of Virginia, in Richmond, VA. He completed a fellowship in urologic oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York. Dr. Schellhammer has served as a professor at Eastern Virginia Medical School. He is past chairman of the Department of Urology and program director of the Resident Training Program at EVMS. Dr. Schellhammer has made many contributions to the field of urologic oncology through research initiatives. He has been published widely in the category of prostate cancer. He serves on several editorial boards and as a trustee and president of the American Board of Urology. He has also served as president of the Society of Urologic Oncology, president of the Mid-Atlantic Section of the American Urological Association, member of the Board of Directors of the American Urologic Association and president of the American Urologic Association from 2007-2008. Dr. Schellhammer has been in private practice since 1974. He joined Urology of Virginia from Devine-Poutasse-Fiveash and Associates. "I am excited to be a part of this special team of urologists. Dr. Schellhammer is the recipient of the Ernest Miles Award of the British Association of Urologic Surgeons, the president’s Medal and Honorary Degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School and an honorary member of the European Association of Urology.
