His present position is head of the department of orthopaedic surgery (A/Prof) at University Medical Center Groningen, The Netherlands. He founded a regional clinical network for orthopedic infections and holds several chair positions. His current work is aimed at minimizing tissue damage, improving safety and efficacy of surgical treatment of tumor and infection. He published over 150 peer reviewed papers (H-factor 26) and is co-program leader of MBM (Man Biomaterials Microbes), a research line at W.J. Kolff institute at the University of Groningen, The Netherlands.
