Research interests
One interesting observation leads to another — curiosity feeds itself — and before long there exists so very many interesting possibilities for discovery. With a super team of researchers (past and current), backed by plentiful resources from the MPG, plus an added stimulus from physicists in Paris, my research interests continue to expand / intersect / converge / diverge / complement / challenge and generally keep me more than on my toes.
Work that has expanded my horizons of late includes theoretical work on ecological scaffolding (and continuing experimental realisations), empirical journeys into complex microbial communities, forecasting evolution, and the biophysics of surface colonisation.
