Recently I joined to the energy metabolism team at CECs, where we actively try to decode cellular metabolism. The main approach is to measure metabolites with high spatiotemporal resolution using genetically-encoded fluorescent sensors. Here, my contribution includes the establishment of viral vectors production (lentivirus and baculovirus) and cell lines that favor the expression of these sensors, which has facilitated the use of these molecular tools. Also, I applied my expertise in genetic manipulation to alter some cellular activities for the better understanding of metabolic pathways. Derived of this collaboration I was awarded with my first Chilean grant: Fondecyt de Iniciación. The overall focus of this is the application of metabolic sensors as tools in high-throughput platforms to facilitate the study of metabolites transports and selection of specific inhibitors for membrane transporters involved in various cell dysfunctions.
