His research spans representational foundations for structured and unstructured imaging-data and applied aspects of aforesaid foundations in areas such as security and mobile-health (stroke rehab, preventive interventions etc.).

He received the National Science Foundation's CAREER award in 2015. He is a senior member of the IEEE since 2014. He was invited to participate in the Emerging Leaders in Multimedia workshop by IBM as a graduate student in 2008, and received a Distinguished Dissertation Award from UMD in 2009.
