Peter Offermans was born in Heerlen, The Netherlands, in 1977. He received the M.S. degree in applied physics from the Eindhoven University of Technology, Eindhoven, The Netherlands, in 2001, and the Ph.D. degree in applied physics from the Eindhoven University of Technology, Eindhoven, The Netherlands in 2005. He was with the Semiconductor Physics Group, COBRA Inter-University Research Institute, Eindhoven, The Netherlands, in 2005, where he worked on atomic scale characterization of III–V semiconductors by cross-sectional scanning tunneling microscopy. He is currently a Senior Researcher with Holst Centre/IMEC, Eindhoven, The Netherlands. His current research interests include the development of new (nano) technologies for chemical sensing, more specifically plasmonic sensors and electrical sensors based on gallium nitride.
