Bio
Pilar Marín is Professor of Condensed Matter Physics at the Complutense University of Madrid since January 2021 and director of the Institute of Applied Magnetism, since October 2017, of which she was a researcher since 1996. She developed the research wok for he PhD thesis at the Institute of Materials Science of the Spanish National Research Council and developed pre- and postdoctoral research stays at the MASPEC Institute in Parma (Italy), at the Max-Planck Institute in Stuttgart (Germany), at the IFW Institute in Dresden (Germany) and at the University of Sheffield (United Kingdom). She was Ramón y Cajal Researcher of the first call of the program in 2001. Author of of 105 scientific publications that have 2,314 citations with an h=26 index and of 20 granted patents, of which six are being exploited by two “spin-off” companies created expressly for it. She has participated as a invited lecturer or as an oral speaker in about thirty international conferences and in four organizing committees. She was the director of the IV School CEMAG “Summer workshop, challenges of basic and applied magnetism”. Director of four doctoral theses, director of 3 Diplomas of Advanced Studies and 10 Master Thesis.
Her works focus on the magnetic properties of amorphous magnetic wires and microwires, on nanocrystallization processes of amorphous magnetic materials, on exchange interaction; in magnetic sensors and biosensors; in materials absorbing electromagnetic radiation and in graphene synthesis. She has participated in more than 40 competitive research projects of national and international calls being Principal Investigator of European Projects, INNPACTO, AVANZA, of the Community of Madrid, of the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness and coordinator of a project of the "Science for Peace" program of NATO. She has been principal investigator in Projects with companies: Tecnatom, ADIF, Micromag 2000 S.L. and has been a researcher in the companies Dimetronic, CETREN, CEDEX, IKEA. She actively participated in the start-up of the technology-based company Micromag 2000, S.L., achieving scalability in the manufacture of amorphous magnetic microwires and optimizing the product "Electromagnetic paint for radar attenuation”, based on four patents extended by Europe and the USA and currently on commercialization. As a result of her latest research has been the patent "Label, system and method for long-distance detection of objects" for the application of magnetic microwires in security labels that has been licensed by the company "Innprotec Loss Preventions Technologies, S.L.", created by Pedro Ballvé Lantero expressly for its exploitation. She is an evaluator of the H2020 Program of the European Union, of the Spanish AEI, of French “Agencia Nacional de la Recherche”, of Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). In 2021 it has signed art. 83 technology transfer contracts with the company Endomag of the Science Park of the University of Cambridge, for the development of biomedical sensors based on magnetic microwires, and with the company Huawei Austria for the manufacture of magnetic cores based on this type of material. She has participated in the organization of 3 international conferences, and as an evaluator of articles for international journals such as J.Magn.Mat, Appl. Phys. Lett, Electronics, Nanomaterials, ACS Nano, etc. She was Local Committee member for INTERMAG 2008. Member of the Board of Directors of the Spanish Magnetism Club (CEMAG), in which she has held the positions of Secretary (2014-2016), Vice President (2016-2018) and President (2018-2020), having been the first woman to hold the latter. She is Treasurer and member of the Board of Directors of IBERNAM (Spanish Network of Micro and Nanosystems).
