Bio
Dr Pinelopi Kyvelou is Research Associate in Steel Structures in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Imperial College London and Affiliated Member in the Data-Centric Engineering programme at the Alan Turing Institute, the United Kingdom's national institute for data science and artificial intelligence.
Her research expertise lies in the areas of testing, numerical modelling and development of design guidance for metallic 3D printed structural members and composite cold-formed steel systems. She is also working on the structural testing and safety assessment of the MX3D Bridge, the world’s first metal 3D printed bridge, for which she is leading the computational modelling, envisaged to develop into a smart digital twin.
Pinelopi has also worked as a Research Associate in the School of Engineering at the University of Edinburgh on composite panels for high density construction. She has been a 2nd prize winner of the 2016 Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE) Young Researchers’ Conference and has received an Honourable Mention Award for her contributions in the field of Engineering from the ABTA Association.
Having been appointed as Assistant Supervisor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Imperial College London, she has co-supervised a number of PhD, MSc and undergraduate students and is delivering lectures for undergraduate and postgraduate modules.
Pinelopi has been awarded a PhD degree from Imperial College London while she also holds an MSc degree in Earthquake Engineering from Imperial College London and a diploma in Civil Engineering (MEng equivalent) from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA).
