ACADEMIC DEGREES
During her permanence at the Sapienza University of Rome, Dr. Ferroni has been a tutor of General Pathology at the Medical School (Experimental Course "Rome Parallel Track") on Evidence-Based Medicine. Thereafter, she has been contract professor of Medical Oncology (Graduate Course for Laboratory Technicians) and General Pathology (Graduate Course for Nursing) at the IRCCS San Raffaele Pisana (held in collaboration with the Sapienza University of Rome and the University of Rome Tor Vergata)
RESEARCH EXPERIENCE
1. Development of immunoassays for the detection of tumor associated antigens (TAA) in tissues, plasma and other body fluids. Development of immunoassays to support clinical studies for evaluating the efficacy of MAbs to detect carcinomas as well as deliver therapeutic agents: assays for the detection of circulating immune complexes (both antigen-antibody and antibody-antibody complexes) using high performance liquid chromatography; assays for the evaluation of the immunoreactivity and form of the injected MAb; assays to examine the development of human anti mouse antibodies; development of treatment conditions capable of abolishing the interference of human anti mouse antibodies in the detection of TAAs using commercial immunoassays.
2. Development of immunoassays to detect and quantify anti-idiotypic antibodies in the sera of patients with malignant disease who have received diagnostic or therapeutic doses of monoclonal antibodies.
3. In vitro studies concerning the molecular mechanisms of interaction between platelets and tumor cells in the pathogenesis of blood-born metastasis. Role of tumor associated antigens in platelet/tumor cell interaction.
4. Platelet physiopathology: in vitro studies of the mechanism(s) of platelet activation involved in the pathogenesis of different pathologic conditions such as cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and atherothrombotic disorders.
5. Clinical studies on the relationship between haemostatic activation and inflammation in the pathophysiology of atherosclerosis and cancer.
Dr. Ferroni acts as a peer reviewer for many international Journals and is an active member of many Scientific Societies, such as the European Association for Cancer Research, the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis, the Italian Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis and the Italian Society of Internal Medicine.
