Bachellor in Chemistry (1991). PhD Thesis in Chemistry Sciences (1996)
Academic experience: Assistant Professor (1997-2003) and Associate Professor of Crystallography and Mineralogy at the University of Sevilla, 2003-present. Visiting Research Scientist: Lousiana State University in Baton Rouge, USA (1998 and 2000) (Prof.Ray E. Ferrell); Institute of Ceramic Research (IRTEC), in Faenza, Italy (2000) (Dr. Michelle Dondi); Universitá degli Studi di Bologna, in Bologna, Italy (2006) (Prof. Giovanni Valdré) and University of Indiana, in Bloomington, USA (2007) (Profs. Haydn H. Murray and David Bish).
Professor at ERASMUS IP School on Clays at the Budapest University (2008). Leader of courses on X-ray diffraction and Lecturer in specialized courses on clay mineralogy.
Research and publications: Author or co-author of more than 65 papers published in scientific journals and book chapters, most of them on clays and clay minerals (kaolin, mixed-layer clay minerals, industrial applications, ceramics), soil pollution, carbon capture sequestration. Co-author of three patents to improve kaolin properties during industrial treatment, and CO2 capture in waste construction materials, respectively. Member of 28 goverment or industrial research projects on clays and the environment. Leader of research projects on carbon capture sequestration by clays and silicate materials and aluminium silicates applications.
Professional Society Activities: Member of the Spanish Clay Society from 1993; Treasurer of the Spanish Clay Society (1999-2002); member of the Spanish Clay Society Council (2002-2006, 2010-2012); Secretary of the Spanish Clay Society (2015-2018); Member of the Organizing Committee for Annual Meetings of the Spanish Clay Society (1999, 2001, 2002).
She also has a relevant activity in that of Clay Minerals Society (USA): Councilor Clay Minerals Committee (2012-15) being the first Spanish researcher elected to said Council, Chair of the Contributions and Membership Committee (2013-2016), Member of the Source Clay Minerals Committee (2007-2010), Member of the Finance and Budget (2020-2023). Treasurer of the Organizing Committee for 2010 Trilateral Meeting on Clays SEA-CSSJ-CMS, member of the Organizing Committee of the General Meeting at 2010TMC.
Awards: Finalist for the Martin Vivaldi Award (1999) organized by European Clay Group Association in collaboration with Spanish Clay Society.
From 2009 to 2016 Patricia Aparicio was Director of the General Resarch Service of X Rays at the University of Seville. From 2012 to 2015 she was also appointed Deputy Director of the Centre for Research, Technology and Innovation of the University of Seville (CITIUS), and she is the Director of CITIUS from 2015. The CITIUS consists of three buildings among which the 15 General Research Services of the University of Seville are located. Management tasks include responsibility for 99 highly qualified employees. As an idea of the magnitude of CITIUS, it is enough to indicate that during 2017 CITIUS provided more than 50,000 services to companies, researchers from the University of Seville and other public research bodies.
